Another pyreno - now on phragmites
Maren Kamke, 27-04-2013 09:22
Maren KamkeHello,

Another find this time on Phragmites sp.

The fruitbodies are to 3 mm long and 0,2 mm wide. They are very old, I got only a few spores 30-35 x 6 – 7 µm brown, with 5 septa.

Thank you for your help.

regards

Maren

Hi Maren,

however, microscopically I suggest it is Lophiostoma arundinis, but the shown ascocarps do not fit this species. Maybe you have more than one species on this substrate?

I agree with Björn,
On the 1st and the second photo, we can see the elongated stroma of, only one supposition, Massarina arundinacea, and plus on the left, perhaps Lophiostoma arundinis.
Your third photo shows this possible Massarina, while the two last photos fit  with the micro of an old (dead) Lophiostoma arundinis.
Both are dead.

Hi Alain, hi Björn,
I think you are right, there are two species on that phragmites stem. I didn't get any more spores of the shown ascocarps.
But little further up on the stem was indeed Lophiostoma arundinis?.
So the confusion is gone :).
Thanks
Maren

Re : Another pyreno - now on phragmites
??Hello again,
now I managed to find living fruitbodies. The spores are 2 celled hyaline and 24-26*4,5-5 µm.
With Ellis I think it could be Mycosphaerella lineolata, but the spores are too big.
