Nectria with pale brown spores
Björn Wergen, 07-03-2012 11:09
Björn WergenHi all,

a few days ago I have found a small, single growing Nectria on old Quercus wood. It has 0,2-0,3 mm broad, bright red perithecia with protuding same-coloured ostiolus.

The main interesting thing is that it has pale brown mature spores with verrucose ornamentation and a single septa. I had 3 other Nectria that day with similar but hyaline spores, differing in spore size and ornamentation.

I did not see any conidia (or do the black stipes having a relation to the Nectria?)

Spores are 10,5-12,5x4-6µm, Asci 90-110x5-6µm.

regards,
björn

Re : Nectria with pale brown spores
Hi Yan, do you mean the Cosmospora aff. magnusiana thread from Zotto? These findings were on Diatrype species, my was on wood associated by Protounguicularia barbata. Cosmospora seems to be unclear these days :/

Re : Nectria with pale brown spores
Dear Björn,
at present, several research teams are working with the "Cosmospora" in the world. It seems that there is numerous species in this group but we do not yet know well how to separate them.?
Yan is right, it is impossible to know what is your specimen without culture and molecular data. Jacques Fournier and I are working with "Cosmospora", as soon as we will have some results we will notify you.

Furthermore, I would like to study your collection, if you agree, you can send it to me

Christian

Hi Yan and Christian,

thanks.

@Christian: Of course I will send you. I have some other Nectria here, I will send them too, perhaps you can do something with them :)

regards,
björn
