Pyreno on Corylus (Alnus?) bark
Enrique Rubio, 23-06-2009 19:21
Enrique RubioHi to all:
I wish to know your opinion about this fungus that grew on Corylus (Alnus?) bark.
Ostiolate tubular necks erumpent across an stromatic and withish-ochrceous disc of 1 mm.

Re:Pyreno on Corylus (Alnus?) bark
Alain

Dear Christian:
Can be so long the M. alni appendages? Have you any notice about the reddish IKI reaction of the asci apical apparatus?

Bonsoir Christian et Alain:
Munk's description of Melanconis alni says: ' no distinct apical structure seen'

Re:Pyreno on Corylus (Alnus?) bark
Enrique, please test IKI also after KOH for a possible blue reaction, and MLZ without KOH. Would be very interesting to see whether the apical rings are dextrinoid or hemiamyloid.

Re:Pyreno on Corylus (Alnus?) bark
Hi Enrique

did you make the test on hemiamyloidity in the meantime? I have yesterday found that Lopadostoma gastrinum has a hemiamyloid apical ring, though quite dirty reddish in IKI but deep blue in KOH + IKI. I am unaware of a literature report and I assume that in Melzer without KOH the reaction is quite negative. The specimen is from Aix-en-Provence, on Ulmus.

I don't know this species, but Munk's description says: ' spores with a delicate, fugacious, rounded appendage at each end'.
The spores of my collection are very different, as you can see.

Re:Pyreno on Corylus (Alnus?) bark
OK Enrique you are right. Since it can be either on Corylus or on Alnus, I can hazard another guess: Cryptodiaporthe pyrrhocystis?

Good night, Jean-Pierre
Some time ago, I think Alain Gardiennet suggest me this species that I don't know. I don't have aditional information about her. Only Ellis & Ellis's drawings, that show me very different appendages.

Re:Pyreno on Corylus (Alnus?) bark
