I'm looking for recent material of Rutstroemia (Lanzia) longipes from North America (ideally from the U.S., NY state) to study and compare with european collections. It would be also great if you can note some of the characters while still alive and in water mount, esp. paraphyses contents, surface hyphae, ascus and spore size.Â
Thank you very much.Â

Re : Material search
Hi Viktorie
do you have vital images of European longipes? I found a note that you wanted to show me some (Aug. 2020, I have only your macro MG_7211_cr2000w_rgb). As you can see I know only living spores photographed by Irina.

Re : Material search
Hello Zotto,
yes, I have half-finished answers on several of your e-mails including this one. I'll try to put the photos together and send them. I appologize for my extremely slow tempo.Â

Re : Material search
Hi Viktorie,
Like I said in my last e-mail, I have the last year's specimen (https://inaturalist.org/observations/58764878) and if you need I can send it, but I need to know what part of it do you need, or maybe you need it all. It is not from NY state, but close. I'm probably going to find more specimens later this year in September, as I've done in the previous two years.

Re : Material search
Hi Viktorie,
Yesterday I collected Lanzia longipes in the location I've seen it in 2019. I posted some pictures here.

I believe some living paraphyses have low refracting VBs. It is difficult to see (picture#8).
With surface hyphae, I'm not sure what to look for.

Re : Material search
Superb pics! Granular cortical hyphae are typical of Rutstroemia. Do they produce a ionomidotic reaction?
VBs IÂ would estimate as very weakly refractive (guttulate) to zero, so no conspicuous contents.

Re : Material search
No, it didn't produce ionomidotis reaction. KOH dissolved granular from cortical hyphae and the solution became yellow. At the same time, cortical hyphae became transparent and I was able to see ectal excipulum underneath it.
I uploaded the last three pictures. https://inaturalist.org/observations/88991407

Re : Material search
But this is ionomidotic: dissolution of a pigment that becomes visible in the medium. Yellow or red-brown are different colour types of that reaction. The term reaction is not good in my opinion, becaouse chemical reactions are often recognizable by a colour change.

Re : Material search
It was my mistake.
Thank you so much for your explanation.
