Angel PintosI need some help with this apothecium found in died branches of Juniperus sp.
The first look I thought That i was looking to on Patellaria, but when I saw the micro my opinion has changed.

Re : Apothecium on Juniperus
Could you please give a spore size? The hymenial base looks like showing a reddish stain in IKI. It would be worth to check the IKI-reaction also after KOH-treatment, maybe it would be blue then.

Re : Apothecium on Juniperus
Thanks for the answer Zotto

it is hemiamyloid´
apothecium size 0,5-0.8mm
Asci 86-11 micrometres media size
Ascospores 61-3 micrometres
septa has been very difficult because the ascosporas breaks easy 13-15 septa

Re : Apothecium on Juniperus
For my database query I need spore length and width. Your length has an error: 61-73?

So you got a blue reaction after KOH? It is not easily seen on your photo.

Re : Apothecium on Juniperus
yes clearly blue reaction, ca you see now in this picture?
The spores are 61L X 3 wide

Re : Apothecium on Juniperus
o.k., I find 45-61 x 3 µm. The blue I see now, but it is not present already  without KOH? Because in Patellaria occurs a blue pigment in water or KOH.

Pragmopora spp., Therrya spp. and Grovesiella abieticola have inamyloid hymenia.

Your fungus grows superficially, resembling indeed a Patellaria, but so long spores I do not know there.

Re : Apothecium on Juniperus
Couldn't it be a lichenized Stictis (urceolatum)?

Hello Martin, the morphology of apothecium in my opinion is very different, dont you think so Martin?

I don´t know anythink about it

Thanks Martin

Re : Apothecium on Juniperus
I now confirm it is hemiamyloid. So my suggested genera are out of question.

No idea.  A lichenization I do not see on the photo., but I may be wrong.

Re : Apothecium on Juniperus
I do not see either licheniziaton, I think it is a Dothideomycete, but I am not sure

Re : Apothecium on Juniperus
Yes, but Dothideomycetes are very often inamyloid, as far as I can see. I know some discoid ones which are hemiamyloid, genera Baggea or Melaspilea, but none has such long spores.

Re : Apothecium on Juniperus
it was tempting to compare with Stictis/Conotrema urceolatum.
http://mushroomobserver.org/observer/show_observation/44379
http://lichenportal.org/portal/collections/individual/index.php?occid=2951057

But I did not find original microscopy descriptions.

Angel, do you have an overview of apothecia?

Martin

There seems to be a white crust around the apothecia, but morphology looks different, indeed.

What you see is in small apothecia a part of the host tissue after having broken it
