Scutellinia in stream bed
Malcolm Greaves, 20-08-2015 01:29
Malcolm GreavesThis Scutellinia seems to fit well with S superba but I have heated the spores and been unable to see any sign of the outer layer loosening. Can anyone suggest an alternative?
4mm across with very short bent hairs. 275 x 20 mostly with no root.
The spores are 21.01 x 13.74 (average of 10)
Thanks.
Mal

Hello Mal.

Have you thought of looking to S.nigrohirtula?

Michel.

I had thought about S nigrohirtula. In Schumacher the hairs are shown/described as long and narrow but I know Benat has given this id to finds with this sized hair. I just felt that the hairs on this find were paler and had a distinctive shape not seen on other S nigrohirtula finds. I have tried again to heat spores and had no success in showing any loosening of the outer spore wall so I think you are right with your suggestion.
Thanks again
Mal
