Hi to everybody.This Orbilia (apos up to 0.5 mm),
Mollisia on Quercus twig
Juuso Äikäs,

Asci 8-spored, with croziers, IKI+(bb). Paraphyses with a mollisioid VB, KOH negative. Spores clavate, measuring:
(10) 10.2 - 13.8 (14.3) × (2.5) 2.7 - 3 (3.3) µm
Q = (3.4) 3.6 - 5.26 (5.3) ; N = 10
Me = 11.7 × 2.9 µm ; Qe = 4.1
Any hope getting to species level?

Re : Mollisia on Quercus twig
The VBs I see only very faintly reactive. This could point to a Pyrenopeziza. Otherwise I would have compared Mollisia scopiformis ("pyrenopezizoides").

Hi Juuso!
Quercus-twig an spore measurments reminds me on this Mollisia:

As far as I know it doesn't have a official name yet.

Re : Mollisia on Quercus twig
Good idea, Ingo! You have these species better in mind. Let's hope that this species gets resolved with a name in the far future. Juuso, could you please send me the collection date and coordinates?

Re : Mollisia on Quercus twig
That does indeed look tike a good fit! Thanks! The paraphyses did look like typical Mollisia ones with the long VBs. Maybe they're not in the best condition in the micropic. I'll mail the collection data later today.
---
There were also old Colpoma quercinum fruitbodies (plus a couple fresh ones) on the twig, like on some photos in the folder. At least some of the Mollisia fruitbodies seemed to be growing from the old slits made by C. quercinum.

Re : Mollisia on Quercus twig
Yes, Colpoma might be an indicator. And the VBs were indeed more refractive in the finds from 2017-2019.
