Mollisia cf caricina
Viktorie Halasu, 11-07-2024 14:29
Viktorie HalasuHello,

a thin-fleshed Mollisia on a monocot stem (triangular, probably a Carex), on a grassland, in a narrow strip of taller herbs, reed and Rubus caesius along a rail track. Rather light colored excipulum with short clavate marginal cells.
Paraphyses approx. *(2.9)3.8-4.4(5.8) um wide. Asci *25.2-27.2 × (3.7)4-4.5 um, H+, IKI+bb.
No crystals. KOH negative.
Spores *(4.5)4.7-5.8(6.1) × 0.9)1.1-1.3 um, X = 5.2 × 1.2 um, Q = 3.9-5.1.

Mollisia caricina (the KOH- form on Typha) looks similar. What do you think?

Re : Mollisia cf caricina
Hello Viktorie!

I think that's a good name for now. This species may need a new name.
These KOH-negative "cf-caricinas" have so far only been found on Poaceae. The real Mollisia caricina probably grows on Cyperaceae and is KOH-positive.
But from your finding (KOH-negative + possibly Poaceae) you can see that there is still a lot of knowledge missing.

Greetings
Ingo

Hello Ingo,
thank you for confirmation. Next time I'll try to have it sequenced too. It's from my favourite locality 15 min from home so there is a good chance to see it again.
