Eupropolella britannica?
William de Jong, 05-01-2024 22:35
Hi everyone,

A while ago I found this ascomycete on fallen leaves of Hedera helix, I then thought it was Guignardia/Phyllosticta philoprina. But reviewing this, I'm starting to think that Eupropolella britannica is probably a better fit.
What do you think?

Spore size: (14,7-)16,1-19,5 x (5,0-)5,1-6,4(-6,5) um.

Kind regards,
William de Jong

Re : Eupropolella britannica?
Yes, I agree, The probem is only the host. E. britannica is described from Prunus laurocerasus. I never saw a collection on that host but repeately some on Hedera. My suspicion is that there are two species, so I called this one E. hederae.

Regrettably there is no sequence of either substrate. 6 years ago a Dutch specimen on Hedera came to Estonia, I assume for sequencing, but I did not hear of it.

I would be pleased if I could have the collection data of your sample. An article on this is in preparation.

Re : Eupropolella britannica?
Thanls! If you have a herbarium number I would make a note.

I must correct I have some collections of E. britannica in my britannica folder. With such two very different hosts it would be surprizing when both are the same species.

Re : Eupropolella britannica?
Unfortunately, I could not find the sample in my herbarium anymore. I can try to collect new material.
