Penicillium cf purpurogenum
Stephen Martin Mifsud, 24-07-2022 10:25
Stephen Martin MifsudHello, I recently found a mould growing on a wine cartoon box (sitting at the back of the cupboard for ages) which I managed to isolate and which forms a red pigment on MEA and Oat Agar (not or mildly so on PDA or Czapek). The penicillia are biverticillate, uncrowded, rather acute (slender), Phialides rather long 12-15um , not strongly diverticulate (almost in parallel bunches),  conidiophores smooth, pigmented, conidiospores 2.5-4 um, dark green-grey, unornamented.

P. purpurogenum my best option, but maybe there are other considerations.
