Octospora rubens not on Ceratodon?

In the Flemish dunes I found on Syntrichia what I identify as Octospora rubens. I base this on Cahiers FMBDS and a key from Moyne, and info on Octospora.de. I also notice the orange granules and vacuoles in the paraphyses. But O. rubens is described on Ceratodon and not on Synthrichia! Ceratodon purpureus is present at 30 cm, but my specimen is clearly on Syntrichia. More photos and data on https://waarnemingen.be/observation/234272088/

Re : Octospora rubens not on Ceratodon?
Ciao Carl,
please try to stain the ascospores with Cotton Blue & afterwards compare with O. neerlandica.
Cheers,
Marcel

Octospora neerlandica, not O. rubens!
Thanks Marcel for the tip! It is indeed O. neerlandica. A first find for me, unless my previous observations of O. rubens are also wrong. Too bad I can't check it anymore, I don't have good pictures and no exsicates. Thank you very much for the lesson: I have to look better!

Re : Octospora rubens not on Ceratodon?
You're welcome Carl,
it ain't an ubiquitous species, so it is no wonder that you hadn't expected to find it -even more on poor Belgian land ;-)
Good luck for further discoveries!
