Rutstroemia firma ou Rutstroemia alni ?
Bernard CLESSE, 18-02-2022 16:40

Bernard

Re : Rutstroemia firma ou Rutstroemia alni ?
Neither of them. I suspect R. bolaris on Carpinus. You must study the ectal excipulum, is it of isodiametrical cells or prismatica?

R. alni has spores *17-24 x 7-9 (matching yours, whereas R. firma has *15-23 x 4.5-6. R. alni occurs with multiguttulate spores as well as with two large and many small LBs. No idea if this has something to say. In R. firma I never saw multiguttulate spores, which are characteristic of R. bolaris.

One reason for R. bolaris is, that you found it now. It is a sprin fungus, though my notes say III-IV. R. alni and R. forma are autumn fungi.

Try to find out the host, with a radial section it is easy to recognize Alnus by the ladder-like perforations that Carpinus does not have.

Yes Zotto, you are absolutely right. I was too quick in my conclusions and I had forgotten Rutstroemia bolaris which I nevertheless collected several times. Andgelo Mombert also put me back on the right track.

Kind regards,

Bernard

Bonsoir,
Of course I approve R. bolaris . I only want to add that we regularly collect it in Februrary (in West of France) and even earlier than Bernard's find

Grand merci pour ton info sur la phénologie de cette espèce, Michel !

Je me rappellerai de cet élément important signalé par Zotto et que tu me confirmes aussi !

Bien amicalement,

Bernard
