Une hélotiale sur aiguilles de Larix
Michel Hairaud,

Spores biguttulées, hétéropolaires, 17-20 x 5,5-7 (guttules -> 4 µm)
Paraphyses sans VBs évidentes dans H2O mais faiblement colorées par le CRB
Cellules marginales soit obtuses x 10 µm, soit élancées , hyalines, x 5 µm
Ectal prismatique avec des masses peu refringentes
Medulla intricata d'hyphes parallèles.
Merci pour toute aude apportée Amitiés. Michel

Hi Michel
can you send a photo of the amyloid ring please?
I could nit find anything similar in my database when considering larix needles and this spore size.

Re : Une hélotiale sur aiguilles de Larix
Hmm, this ascus apex is broadly conical with a truncate tip. This does not sound to me like Calycina, but could well relate to Rutstroemiaceae, although being comparatively thin-walled. No idea of a genus or species.

Re : Une hélotiale sur aiguilles de Larix
Merci encore,
I had not paid enough attention to the ascus truncate aspect so I have tried new pics from an exsic sample to get more precisions about the IKI reaction shape.
I canot really find here a typical Rutstroemiaceae reaction. Can you ?
I can see that such spore shape and content can be found in that familly, though.
Because of the hairy margin I would have placed it in the former Nannfeld Hyaloscyphaceae but could not find any matching genus in the now Hyaloscyphaceae nor in the Pezizellaceae.
Amitiés

Re : Une hélotiale sur aiguilles de Larix
very good! It really resembles Sclerotiniaceae s.l. much more than Calycina, but is not fully typical. I have the same problem as you, so I placed your find in my Helotiales incertae sedis folder.

Re : Une hélotiale sur aiguilles de Larix
At least, we can place it in Helotiales -:)
If we have some euros left, we might see if sequencing would bring some light on it
Here is the collection data :
- MH 120821 on Larix sp. dead leaves on drained regularly overflooded ground.
- France, Modane, Parc National de la Vanoise, Vallon de Polset , near the ruisseau de St Bernard, alt 1980 m . Leg N. Vanvooren.
Amitiés et merci encore.
