Search for a discomycete genus
Franz Berger, 30-07-2021 18:42
Franz BergerI am searching for an appropriate genus (Biatorella is only a "work" name)

Growing on decorticated stump of Picea (Alps, 1300 m). Black glossy ascocarps up to 0,4 mm, aggregated, with prominent margin;
Epihymenium brown, K+ olive, hymenium 40 µm, hyaline, Lugol neg, paraphyses only peripherically branched, with dark brown caps, 3 µm, hypothecium hyalin,
excipulum of radiate hyphae, outer part dark brown, Lugol + olive, asci clavate 30 x10 µm, I think unitunicate, J-, no ring structure (not opegraphoid)
with > 100 aseptate ascospores, hyaline, bacillliform, 2,5 – 3 x 1 µm,

As there are Trebouxia algae below apothecia in substrate, densely infiltrated with brown hyphae with sphaerical elements (Bispora like) , but no haustoria, it may ba also wealy lichenezed, but does not develop an organiozed thallus; but there is no fitting taxon in lichennology.

I would also be of help to let me know, if there are some ascomycete gerena with asci containing innumerous ascospores like aboce one.
Thanks for all help Franz

Re : Search for a discomycete genus
This is Symbiotaphrina microtheca, earlier as Tromeropsis.

Look this paper here:

Baral, H.O.; Weber, E.; Marson, G.; Quijada, L. (2017). A new connection between wood saprobism and beetle endosymbiosis: the rarely reported saprobic discomycete Tromeropsis is congeneric with the symbiotic yeast Symbiotaphrina (Symbiotaphrinales, Xylonomycetes) and two asexual morphs misplaced in Hyphozyma. – Mycol. Progr. 17: 215–254. – doi 10.1007/s11557-017-1340-y

I would be glad to have coordinates and other data. The species is rather widely distributed but not easily found.

Re : Search for a discomycete genus
Danke! Aber es gibt sonst keine mikroskopischen Daten wie Sporengröße? Ah sorry, die sind ja genannt.
