Dear members of this forumOn a dead stem of Rubus (Rosaceae), I found probably a Discosia sp. but I have no practice in this group.
Discosia artocreas and D. rubi (described from USA) seem to have some overlapping characteristics.
Conidiomata 0.2-0.4 mm
Conidiogenous cells : conical, colourless, smooth, 3,9-6,9×1,3-2,5 µm; Av. 5,4x1,9µm
Conidia:15.7 - 18.5 × 2.1 - 2.9 µm;Av. 17.1 × 2.4 µm; Q = (4.8) 5.6 - 8.9 (9.8) ; Qav = 7.4; cylindrical to somewhat allantoid, hyaline to very light brown, 3-septate, 2nd and 3rd cell not distinctly but just a little unequal ; the third cell is 1-2(4)% shorter in length
Av. length of the cells (1st (base), 2nd, 3rd, 4th (top)): 2.8-6.2-5.3-2.3µm; base cell truncate,
appendages on top and base filiform, up to 11 µm, inserted +- 1 µm from the top; base cell occasionally bearing minute marginal frills
I'm doubtful about D. artocreas because these species is foliicous, not described from Rubus (?) and with conidia more distinctly unequal (Nag Raj).
Av. length of the conidia (Nag Raj for D. artocreas):(12.5-)14-22 X 2-3 [x = 18 X 2.5] µm ; av. length of the individual cells,3.5-7.5-4.5-2.7
Thanks for any advice. Lieve Deceuninck
