White on Rubus
Juuso Äikäs, 02-10-2020 19:07
I found these growing on Rubus idaeus canes a few days ago. The apos are sessile and yellowing with age, not gelatinous.

Asci with croziers, IKI+. Ectal excipulum of textura globosa, medulla of textura intricata. Paraphyses without VBs. The spores measure 11.1 - 15.1 × 3.8 - 5.8 µm.

I don't really know where this might belong.

Re : White on Rubus
Difficult to say, the apical ring looks like a Hymenoscyphus. I am sorry, I have no idea.
Juuso Äikäs, 02-10-2020 22:49
Re : White on Rubus
Thanks anyway. I thought the apical ring was similar to Hymenoscyphus, but the absence of VBs in the paraphyses and the overall combination seems sort of strange to me. This was in a Picea abies dominated forest with Larix as well and probably plenty of gray heron dung on the ground as well.

Re : White on Rubus
VBs are not present in every species of Hymnoscyphus s.l., but on Runus I can't say.

Re : White on Rubus
I now remember an undescribed species from Vosges on Rubus collected by Jaques Deny, which might belong to this. I called it rubi-idaei, and it is in my Cudoniella folder.

This was at almost 100o m altitude on acidic soil.

Where is yours from?

Re : White on Rubus
I looked at the folder and that just might be it! Maybe I'll try to find the outer hairs as well. The location is the same as with my other collections: Porvoo (Southern coast of Finland), soil also probably acidic.

Re : White on Rubus
When I find time to describe this species (a sequence exists of it), I would like to mention your sample as well. What is the collection date?
Juuso Äikäs, 03-10-2020 19:53
Re : White on Rubus
There were indeed some short hairs to be found. I'll mail you the more detailed data.
