I've never find it myself but from what I remember, here in Czech Republic it grows on two kinds of localities - in higher altitudes under Abies, and (in lower altitudes??) under Betula. The second type are often localities with Verpa bohemica. The year 2013 was especially good for Caloscypha and it was seen/collected on several new localities with Betula, without Abies. A friend of mine mentioned even some difference in color - those from conifers more red and blueing very intensively and those from under birch more yellow and not blueing so much. I don't know if anyone else made the same observation.

Bonjour Patrice,
L'espèce paraissait très rare en Belgique jusqu'il y a peu, puisqu'elle n'avait été récoltée que sporadiquement et avec de longues périodes d'absence.
Mais depuis une bonne dizaine d'années, nous réalisons l'inventaire du Brabant Wallon (+/- au centre de la Belgique, autour des 100m d'altitude), et nous en avons déjà une petite dizaine d'observations, principalement dans les anciennes carrières de sable (donc souvent avec bouleaux à proximité), mais pas uniquement car elle est même venue dans mon jardin !
Déjà 3 observations en 2019. Les autres dates de 2005 et 2011, mais j'en oublie peut-être...

Trouvé hier 21/02/2021 a Labassere haute pyrenées 730 metres altitude, au bord d'une source sous bouleaux et bruyeres sans aucun sapin a coté. C'est la première fois que je récolte Caloscypha fulgens sans sapins autour.
