Lachnum

Merci, Roland

Re:Lachnum
Hi

it depends how narow you take the genus. In the modern narrow sense (white, stipitate apothecia, apically warted hairs) you can try my key on the DVD. I attach it here (I regret it is not well formatted and needs revision). To use the key you must have vital characters (vacuoles in the paraphyses and hairs)-. If you don't have that, you can try to guess: if the apos turned reddish-brown during drying it means that VBs (refractive vacuoles) were present.

what was the substrate?

Good luck

Re:Lachnum

P = paraphyse
H = hairs (poils)

Merci, Roland

Re:Lachnum
if you mean the ectal excipulum, that is a hyaline t. globulosa. The ental excipulum (medulla) is a slightly gelatinized intricata of rather wide hyphae. In A. sarcoides the ectal is the same, but the ental is strongly gelatinized of narrow hyphae with abundant gel.

Merci Zotto.

Re:Lachnum
yes, Ascocoryne inflata and A. solitaria. There is a key on my DVD, do you have access to it? It is a bit spacy (1.3 MB), but I can attach it if you don't have.

Re:Lachnum
I don't have your DVD, but I heard ofen about it.
I can learn it if you attach it.
Other thing , in your key of Lachnum, what is the meaning of IKI rb ou bb.
Merci beaucoup Zotto, Roland

Re:Lachnum
IKI is Lugol (Melzer without chloral hydrate), rb means red at high, blue at low concentration, bb = blue at any concentratikon, rr = red....

here I try to attach Ascocoryne,.

Re:Lachnum
Thank you for the key Zotto.
Why do you use Lugol insted Melzer ?
I think that Lugol is a reactive very instable. It's loose quickly its propriety (3-4 weeks).

Re:Lachnum
Hi Roland

I wrote about 20 years ago a 50 pages paper about that.

Lugol's solution/IKI versus Melzer's reagent: hemiamyloidity, a universal feature of the ascus wall
Mycotaxon 1987, vol. 29, pp. 399-450

You can find this paper on cyberliber:
http://www.cybertruffle.org.uk/cyberliber/59575/0029/index.htm
(search for Baral)

It is true that iodne escapes from a watery solution much faster than from one that contains chloral hydrate. but I have my Lugol over several years in a glass bottle. Rarely I had to add iodine crystals.

Melzer is highly unsuitable, at least for ascomycetes, although it is still often used. Thanks to authors like Dennis we have this bad situation. MLZ suppresses the red (hemiamyloid) reaction mainly known from ascus walls. So often species were thought to be inamyloid while they are in fact amyloid.

I wrote also a paper about that in Tintling ( in German), and an english translation is planned for my homepage.

In Wikipedia I also wrote about that (in German):
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemiamyloidit%C3%A4t

Re:Lachnum
paraphyses ..... , upper cell *33-60 x 2.8-4 or 4-5.3 µm, upper 6-27 µm (2-3 refractive) multiguttulate; SCBs?;

Merci, Roland

Re:Lachnum
The octahedric crystals in Ascocoryne are presumably of calcium oxalate, and druses are aggregates of crystals. Sorry, the images do not show these crystals.

The terminal cell of a paraphysis often contains slightly to strongly refractive vacuoles or other types of organelles. here they reach 6-27 µm dwon from the tip. In the drawings of sarcoides and cylichnium are also such contents.

Re:Lachnum
Do you mean my key? unpublished, und in much too undetailed shape to be published. What is your progress in that Lachnum?

I also wished to say that Ascocoryne is very difficult to identify in the dry state. Even the striking difference in the medullary excipulum becomes obscure, and also the crystals may become unclear. I think I wrote that in the introduction. I suppose you have taken dry material home.

Hello Zotto.
That's the key I have telecharged form my first message on Lachnum.
It is indicatded as Hans-Otto Baral. Is it from him or from you ?
Do you have a key too ?
I studied the specimens of Ascocoryne from dry state and I arrived to A. cylichnium.
You will find a photo below.
Thank you for all your help Zotto.
