John Plischke, 24-05-2008 04:15
John PlischkeThis is my first post hope I am doing this right. They were growing on damp wood under leaves. Spore photos taken at 400X. I think I have 2 dfferent spores in the photo. Sorry my spore photos are not better. Held up a digital camera to the eyepiece.

Re:Arachnopeziza ?
Hi,

Probably A. aurata Fuckel. I can't really see the spores very well, but they appear to be long, filiform,. The brown spores are some other fungus

Re:Arachnopeziza ?
Dear John,
according to your photo, it is very difficult to identify your fungus.
It is an Arachnopeziza but we would like to know the shape and size of the ascospores.
Could you please to send us another picture of ascospores?
On your second picture, there are three brown ascospores with hyalin cell at each end, maybe they are ascospores of the Chaetosphaerella genus.
Regards

Re:Arachnopeziza ?
I tried to photograph the spores again but the image was not improved. I measured them and they were about 60-72 long and about 2-3 um wide. 8 spores in asci. Spores are long and very thin like a needle with 6 or so lines going across them. Seems to fit A. aurata Fuckel perfect. I will stope at the microscope store and get a better photo setup in the near future. I will also go back and check the log for Chaetosphaerella sp.

Thank you,
John
