Arthonia epiphyscia?
Dragiša Savic, 04-01-2017 13:30
Hi, I accidentally found this parasitic species on Physcia adscendens. I have no experience and no literature for parasits on lichens.
Is this Arthonia epiphyscia?

Re : Arthonia epiphyscia?

Hi,

You must give more informations. Are the ascomata perithecioid ? Could you also describe or show hamathecium ?

Best wishes,

Alain

PS : it could be Lichenochora obscuroides

Re : Arthonia epiphyscia?

Are you really sure of the identification on the lichen ?

What was its size ? Are soralia present ?

Re : Arthonia epiphyscia?
Hi Alain,
Yes, it is very similar to the Lichenochora obscuroides. I looked here over 100 lichen parasitic species, but this I missed.
I think there are two species of Physcia. P.adscendens (first picture) and P.tenella (second picture). If I'm not mistaken. Fungus are on P.tenella.
Ascomata is perithecioid (fourth picture, section)

Re : Arthonia epiphyscia?

The one you call P. tenella, parasited one, is not P. tenella. It looks rather like Phaeophyscia orbicularis, that is a good host for L. obscuroides.
