I may have an answer to your question.
The greenish yellow coating is made of an acremonium-like hyphomycete, the anamorph of an undescribed Cosmospora which seems to be specific for X. polymorpha. The teleomorph is fairly easy to obtain after incubation in moist chamber. I attach a photo of the red perithecia with scattered tufts of the remaining anamorph.
