Pseudombrophila hepatica?
Uwe Lindemann, 05-02-2008 22:07
Uwe LindemannHello forum,
last weekend we found a difficult operculate discomycete, growing on undetermined moss between rabbit-dung. Possibly it is a coprophilous fungi.
Apothezia: isolated, 0,1-0,2 cm, reddish brown with purplish touch, hymenium pointed, somewhat gelatinous, with a brighter toothed margin (see picture 1).
Microscopic features:
Asci 8-spored, 220 x 23-30.
Spores: elliptical, 30-35 x 15-16,5, each with a weak but significant guttule (ca. 4 ym) in the centre.
Paraphyses: branched, with with swollen apex, thick-walled and with a lot of septations (see picture 2).
Our provisoric determination is: Pseudombrophila hepatica.
What do you think about our determination? Or do you know further help?
Best wishes
Uwe Lindemann and Dirk Wieschollek

Re:Pseudombrophila hepatica?
Hello.
Your determination seems to be correct. I think this is the species with the most longer spores.
Best regards.
Nicolas

Re:Pseudombrophila hepatica?
I wish to add that the central "guttule" in the spores is the nucleus (light area) containing the nucleolus (grey area).

Re:Pseudombrophila hepatica?
We had interpreted the grey area within the light area as "guttule". Thank you for your correction.
