Ascocoryne sp. ?
Stephen Martin Mifsud, 06-08-2015 07:45
Stephen Martin MifsudHi, I had this image for identification since few years, and I wished to share here perhaps someone can help. It looks quite similar in shape to Ascocoryne sp. (namely A. cylichnium) except the colour is too much orangish. It was found in very damp sandy/girty soil at the side of a forest ditch.

Re : Ascocoryne sp. ?

Hello,

I hardly can believe that this should be a Ascocoryne species.

The colour suggests, that it is a species with carotenoid pigments, which would lead to the Humariaceae. Also the occurence on ground leads to that group.
So in my opinion may be a Melastiza, Neotiella, Ramsbottomia or something like that. No chance without micro details.

best regards,
Andreas

Tout à fait d'accord avec Andreas. Je pense à un Melastiza.

Re : Ascocoryne sp. ?
Thank you Andreas. You are perectly right. I must add that the specimens are very small (the largest about 12mm) and the image was taken from my visit in Finalnd. I am just labelling some pics for my personal web album so the ID is not critical. Unf. I do not have a micro here in Suomi, but one fungus book (Ryman & Holmossen) I burrowed from the library show a good match for Melastiza chateri (very common throughout Scandinavia) so I am labelling it as Melastiza cf chateri which for my purposes should be fine. The image of the book have its print reddish overtone (the cup looking reddish-orange) and I flipped over. Checking the internet, the orange colour matches well.

Many thanks once again.
