Diplonaevia on Luzula sylvatica

Hi everyone

Please see the attached pdf. Could this fungus be Diplonaevia luzulina? I think there are too much differences in spore and ascus size...The fungus was collected at 1500 m.

Thanks again

Great! With multiguttulate paraphyses and such spores I know only Diplonaevia emergens.
I think this fits well. The dark margin is unusual, but in find from Juncus (HB 8352) it is blackish as well.

I was never sure whether the spores in this species are septate already inside the living asci. perhaps some of them? Do you have more ascus photos to show this?

Hi Zotto

In fact I had doubts myself with this species but the host, Juncaceae and not Cyperaceae, took me away from it. Is it possible?

By the other hand I have not more microphotos that show ascospores inside the living asci.

In my database Luzula is a Juncaceae, so this would actually fit.

Now I see that I have images of what was identified as D. luzulina. This seems to be actually your fungus as well, with dark margin.

I am very unsure what to conclude. maybe luzulina = emergens?

Yes. I'm sorry. Luzula is a Juncaceae
