4-spored Calycina like
Marja Pennanen, 29-08-2010 11:43
Hello,
in spite of huge amounts of unfinished specimen, I just keep on picking more.
Well, now the excuse was, that I was looking weather some mushrooms had risen after rains, only some were.
So I spend some time lookig for tiny ascos and collected too many.
This is a finding on Juniperus, I found some Hymenoscyphus like on needles, too, but haven't studied them yet.

These are 0,5-1mm wide:

Re:4-spored Calycina like
After seeing the spores, I though: "Another big spored Hymenoscyphus", but strange one.
The spores were multiguttulate, 25-32x5-7.
The paraphyses were strange: septate, swollen tips were about 2-5 micrometers wide and they branched.
The asci were 85-130x12-16.

Re:4-spored Calycina like
I begin to get a feeling, that there was only 4 spores inside the ascii and put more attention on them.
It really seems, that it's so:

Re:4-spored Calycina like
The Hymenoscyphus idea wanished into Lugol.

Could this be a Calycina or is it something else? I've got no experience of anything like this.

Thanks Zotto,
you were fast.
Once again I meet a P. Karsten-species, which not so very many (no?) other Finnish persons have collected :)
