Unknown red fungus on Salix
Dmitry Gavryushin, 15-11-2006 15:45
Found on dead branches of Salix sp. near a brook in a mixed forest.
Approx. size 30 by 15mm. November 14, 2006, Naro-Fominsk, Moscow region, Russia.

Maybe these were the same ones?

http://keep4u.ru/full/061114/02b31524e7d97a1407/jpg

There were much smaller yellowish fungi (?) on its surface, size less tnan 1mm.

Any suggestions SVP?

Thanks in advance

Re:Unknown red fungus on Salix
Hello.
You must verify under the microscope but I think this fungus is Cytidia salicina. It's very common on Salix branches.
What you call "smaller yellowish fungi" is perhaps a Tremella species, but my experience with those parasitic fungi is reduced...

Hallo Dimitry,

yes the red fungus is Cytidia salicina with certainty.
The so called yellow fungus is a imperfect fungus in my opinion. I found these sort of things several times and never succeeded in finding fertile structures.

best regards,
Andreas
