Cistella on wood of Fagus sylvatica (not Pinus sylvestris)
Maren Kamke, 20-03-2022 17:41
Maren KamkeGood evening,
I found a Cistella sp. on decaying coniferous wood, hairapex capitate, granulate, Asci with croziers, up to 52 µm long mostly shorter than 50 µm, IKI+ blue, spores 1celled, with oil content 0-1, 7,5 x 2,7 µm, paraphyses cylindrical.

Thanks for your help
Regards
Maren

Re : Cistella on wood of Pinus sylvatica
Hallo Maren

as a working name I can offer C. granulosella (= Clavidisculum karstenii), although I know it only from angiosperm wood. But C. dentata is very similar.

Hallo Maren and Zotto,

another idea is that it is Ciliolarinia laetifica in the sense of the enlarged species concept of Raitviir & Huhtinen (2002)

Hmm, what I see in my folder of C. laetifica is longer cylindrical hairs and shorter, fusoid, biguttulate spores.

Re : Cistella on wood of Pinus sylvatica
the collections with biguttulate spores and asci IKI- are to my opinion C. ligniseda. Raitviir and Huhtinen did enlarge the species concept with collections that have IKI+ asci and spores with lower oil content. (unnamed species to my opinion)

Re : Cistella on wood of Pinus sylvatica
Ciliolarina is a mess. For HB 8066 (IKI-) I wrote first cf. neglecta, but you said it is probably laetifica. Now you say ligniseda...

But I meant also the folder IKI+ which includes such broad fusoid spores with +/- oil content, size 4-6.5 x 2-3.

Maren's find goes up to 9 and has 7.5 as middle.

Re : Cistella on wood of Pinus sylvatica
Thank you Zotto and Stip,

I thought also of C. granulosella, had only doubts about the slightly larger spore-width. In the literature the maximal spore width is 2,5 µm.

The mesurements of my find don't fit for Ciliolarinia laetifica. Cistella dentata has larger dimensions overall.

Yes, Ciliolarina should be disentangled, probably it contains several more species.

indeed this sporelength excludes laetifica.

Re : Cistella on wood of Fagus sylvatica
I examined the wood under a microscope and a wood specialist identified it as Fagus sylvatica. Maren

Hi Maren,

That explains the Cistella and not Ciliolarins

Cheers
