Re : Reddening yellow apothecia on twig
Sorry I cannot say. The excipulum structure could help. Photo of an ascus tip in IKI?

OK, thanks. I will try to provide this.

Ha, no I see what you have: Hymenoscyphus phiala, a dubious name of a very clear species. It is in my Cudoniella folder. The only thing is: the asci must arise from croziers. Would you mind sending me the collection data?

Re : Reddening yellow apothecia on twig
How exciting! I will try to find croziers - must admit I may not have searched carefully enough. I will send you an email with the colletion data, for sure.
Thanks a lot!

Re : Reddening yellow apothecia on twig
Yes of course! What now remains is the substrate. I have about 24 collections, all were on Alnus. If you could try a radial section for the ladder-shaped perforations this could be fixed. Was there any Alnus?

Re : Reddening yellow apothecia on twig
Great! I will se what I can do. Not sure if there was Alnus there - could be Alnus incana.
Cheers.

Re : Reddening yellow apothecia on twig
I also recently collected a specimen which could be H. phiala, probably on Alnus. However, the apothecial base turns blue in IKI. That is a feature I did not find mentioned for H. phiala but it could fit H. imberbis. Is it still phiala?

Re : Reddening yellow apothecia on twig
Your IKI is not visible, are the asci really inamyloid? I consider H. phiala possible, but the inner parts of the excipulum should be thick-walled, almost like in Bisporella (now Bispora) or Calycina citrina. You have no photo of the amyloid base? I would not exclude such possibility that H. phiala may react blue at the stipe base - this is easily overlooked.

Re : Reddening yellow apothecia on twig
I tried several times to get a blue ascus reaction with IKI but failed to do so.
On the second photo in the lower right hand corner is a bluing stipe base.

Re : Reddening yellow apothecia on twig
Of course, sorry, I overlooked. The thick-walled excipular cells I see on Edvin's photos.

Re : Reddening yellow apothecia on twig
Yes, this would fit quite well although it dies not show clearly thick walls (perhaps because only surface cells are seen).
