Massaria 130424 702 on Laurus in Madeira
Miguel Ángel Ribes,

Good morningThis Pyreno grew on dead wood with bark, probably from Laurus in Madeira. The size of the perithecia is Me = 890.7 × 412 µm. The asci are octosporic, apparently uniseriate and IKI -.
Ascospores are fusiform, with pointed ends, hyaline when young and light brown when mature, wavy edges, with 4 large guttules, 2 large central ones and 2 smaller external ones, when dead they have 3 septa, (24,6) 25,8 - 30,9 (32,6) × (9,4) 10 - 12,5 (13,2) µm; Q = (2,2) 2,3 - 2,7 (2,8); N = 75; Me = 28 × 11,4 µm ; Qe = 2,5.
Paraphyses very long and narrow.
I think it is a Massaria, but I don't find the especies.
Thank you in advance.
Miguel Ángel Ribes.

Re : Massaria 130424 702 on Laurus in Madeira
Massariaceae (including Massaria) can presumably be excluded within its current circumscription because spore length should be at least 40 um (Voglmayr & Jaklitsch 2021). May be you can get inspiration from the paper "Resolution of morphology-based taxonomic delusions: Acrocordiella, Basiseptospora, Blogiascospora, Clypeosphaeria, Hymenopleella, Lepteutypa, Pseudapiospora, Requienella, Seiridium and Strickeria" (Jaklitsch et al. 2026, Persoonia 37: 82-105). Some of the treated species have similar spores.

This is a lichen, most probably Pyrenula macrospora. Check for small white spots or pores in the greenish lichen thallus under a lens.

Hi Walter, what a pleasure to read you again here.Of course I agree with you.
Pyrenulales are interesting and nice pyrenomycets, but it's not always easy to observe lichenization, in the past I've had experiences identical to Miguel's.
