Is this Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, or do we have something else in Eastern North America? I find mostly H. albidus on rotten leaves here around Ottawa, On, Canada.
This was on heavily rotten leaves on the wet ground. Apothecia small, under 2mm in diameter white and later pale yellowish, stipitate.
Asci 8-spored, IKI+bb, croziers(+), 97x11um, 107x10um, 106x11um.
Ascospores scutuloid, OCI=4,
(16) 16.3 - 20.5 (21.2) × (4.3) 4.4 - 4.8 (4.9) µm
Q = (3.4) 3.5 - 4.5 (4.7) ; N = 23
Me = 18.1 × 4.6 µm ; Qe = 3.9
Paraphyses are cylindrical with multiguttulate VBs, 3.3-3.8um width.
Thank you for your help,
Igor

Re : Hymenoscyphus fraxineus? in North America
Hi Igor,
with croziers + it can be only H. fraxineus in Europe. Do you find them on leaves or their rachises? And on Fraxinus?
Best Martin

Re : Hymenoscyphus fraxineus? in North America
This doesn't look like leaves of Fraxinus. Fraxinus has pinnate leaves.

Re : Hymenoscyphus fraxineus? in North America
Would H. caudatus s.l. be possible? The normal variation doesn't have croziers, but there are other variations (or species?) that do.

Re : Hymenoscyphus fraxineus? in North America
I put it in my folder caudatus H+ central Europe but wonder why the Vbs are only weakly refractive, similar as oftwn the case in typical H. caudatus.
H. albidus occurs in the US? Not sure if I ever heard of this.

Thank you very much Martin, Juuso, and especially Zotto. Every time I think I know something you prove me wrong.
I will post about "H. albidus" in a new topic.
