Cistella geelmuydenii?

I found this on Corylus avellana. Apothecia are white when fresh and up to about 0.3mm in diameter.

The spores in the picture measure 4.7 - 7.4 x 2.4 - 3.7µm  Q = 1.7 - 2.4
Ascus apex is hemyamiloid (didnt check KOH+IKI, only IKI), with croziers

It seems to fit Cistella geelmuydenii quite well. Can anyone confirm?

Thanks in advance & many greetings
Phil Esc

Re : Cistella geelmuydenii?
Dear Phil,

To me this looks like a Hyphodiscus, I think a long time ago I named a collection like this also C. geelmuydenii. Probably C. geelmuydenii is a Hyphodiscus too. Check for Fungal remnants under the Fruitbodies and if you find a anamorph previous known as Catenulifera

Cheers,

Stip

Re : Cistella geelmuydenii?
I have no good concepts in Cistella, but it could be geelmuydenii, except that the spores are much wider than usual (5-8 x 2-2.5). But when  measure your photo I get 2.5-3 µm.

The ectal excipulum is actually somewhat gelatinized which would point to a Hyphodiscus.

Unai Fernandez sent me a few days ago a collection which I considered to be C. geelmuydenii. But that had narrower spores and totally thin-walled exciple. I advised him to take a sequence as I am curious, because he considered Hyphodiscus as a possibility. There are so few sequences of Cistella in GenBank.

Re : Cistella geelmuydenii?
Thanks for your comments.

I tried to find that anamorph and saw some conidia that might or might not fit. But as always with anamorphs, I only saw conidia but destroyed the conidiophores completely during preparation. I also remeasured the spores in the picture and some additional spores, with the same results. There are a lot of fungal remnants on the wood but I can't say if the fungus growa on it. I'll give up on this one, this is too difficult for me... :-)
