Lachnum sp.
Åge Oterhals, 09-02-2026 11:42
Hi forum,
I found this Lachnum on old hardwood twig yesterday.
Apothecium 1,1-1,3 mm, stipe 1,3 mm.
Hairs with abundant crystals, 81- 110 x 2,9 µm
Paraphysis protruding 10-22 µm ; narrow lanceolate with width 3,8-4,4 µm
Asci 65-73 x 5,4-6,4 µm, I+.
Sp. 10-12,2 x 2,8-3,4 µm (N=10)

Regards,
Åge

Re : Lachnum sp.
I think this is L. virgineum. The hair contens and length are as I expect, and the asci look like having croziers.

The spores look a bit wide but I measure only 3 µm as a maximum according to your scale.

Re : Lachnum sp.
Thank you Zotto,
I can confirm that the asci have croziers.
The wider than normal (1,5-2,5 um) spores confused me. On average the 10 measured spores have a width of 3,1 um. This is still within an acceptable variability for the species?

Best,
Åge

Re : Lachnum sp.
1.5-2.5 µm stands in Ellis & Ellis. I doubt that they mearured living spores. The spores are really large, but I have no other idea. You ascus data refer to dead asci which is likewise a bit much.
