Pragmopora?
Karl Soler Kinnerbäck, 23-03-2024 21:33
Found this disco on Quercus robur wood in Örebro, Sweden, 2024-03-23.

Ascomata dark violet-black, superficial, gelatinous when fresh

Asci 110-120 x 11-12, IKI- (however, with a few years old lugol)

Sp hyaline 60-90 x 3-4, up to ~30 septate

Could it be Pragmopora? Suggestions welcome

Re : Pragmopora?
I wonder if it is Gorgoniceps. could you do a closeup of the excipulum from outside?

Re : Pragmopora?
Hi Karl and Zotto,

this is the "Ionopatella multiseptata"

The brownish exudate should be strongly ionomidotic.

Karl, we have an article in prep, it would be nice to add this find. Can I ask you for collection data? And if it will be placed in a herbarium, also a number of the collection. Thank you,

Adam

Re : Pragmopora?
Hi Adam!

Interesting! Thanks for the ID.
Yes there is a strong purple reaction with KOH if that is what Ionomidotic means.

Here are collection data:
Collector: Soler Kinnerbäck, Karl
Collector no.: FA-24-017
Date: 2024 03 24
Country: Sweden
Province: Närke
Parish: Hidinge
Locality: Svartkärrs nature reserve
Habitat: Temperate deciduous forest, on wood on dead, standing Quercus robur
Coordinates: latDD 59.23783; longDD 14.92991

Here is the sighting in the swedish observations database:
https://www.artportalen.se/Sighting/115378908

I only have a few ascomata but will try and deposit to a herbarium, in that case I will get back to you with the catalougue number.

Best regards
Karl

Re : Pragmopora?
Woww, I did not consider this. And I saw the curved paraphyses. Now I got an idea: this must be "Claussenomyces" tympanoides of which long ago I had studied the type, and a later synonym is C. pusiluus, the type of which Luis has studied. I will move this species now from Tympanidaceae to Cordieritidaceae.

Re : Pragmopora?
Super! Thanks Karl
Ha, I looked in the past at Cl. tympanoides and also at your folder Zotto but I did not make the connection. It really seems to be this species. I can look at it in more detail later. Luis did not try sequencing? It was probably too old.

Re : Pragmopora?
I am sure he nows the species only from this old material and did not try DNA. I hope we will get a seuqence of my specimen which is intermediate between the two with 1-septate spores. The lab in MS will perhaps continue in June.
