Tiny black bitunicate on Platanus
Ethan Crenson, 11-02-2018 08:21
In the Bronx, New York.  Tiny, black, globose, superficial fruiting bodies on a decorticated branch of Platanus × acerifolia.  Some appear to collapse into a disc-like form.  Asci are bitunicate, 125-148 by 22-27µm, IKI-.  Ascospores are golden yellow-brown, somewhat roughened, (4) 5-septate, most constricted at the middle of the spore, bearing a gelatinous sheath, 36-40 by 8.5-10µm.  The spores turn blue in iodine.   Pseudoparaphyses septate, branched.  I believe I posted the same organism on 17 Nov of last year.  Any ideas?  Thank you!
